Gratitude

““I am happy because I’m grateful. I choose to be grateful. That gratitude allows me to be happy.”.” - Seth Godin

Gratitude to yourself

Allow for compliments to flow to you. When someone compliments you accept the compliment. You have gifts and abilities that make you unique and people appreciate you. Find joy in the small and simple compliments to the big ones you work hard on. Your effort and value is recognized and appreciated. Accept the joy and be grateful for the compliment.

There are many other ways to be grateful for yourself. You as a human being is a miracle in itself. It is amazing that you were born and are breathing. Be grateful for this day to explore and be you and share your individuality with others.

Be grateful for your mind, body and spirit. Share your love.

Gratitude for others

Who in your life are you grateful for?

Who brings joy to your life?

Be grateful for the wonderful connections you have with family, friends, coworkers, classmates and the stranger that shares a smile with you. Share a smile with them.

Gratitude for your environment

Do you have a nice place to live?

What is something beautiful in the world that you live in?

Even if it is just a corner of your room where you have something special, your ability to view the space and be grateful will lift your spirits.

Gratitude to God

Heavenly Father loves you and wants the best for you. Give thanks for the opportunities that come your way by prayer.

How has God blessed you today or in your life?

Let’s celebrate this season with thanks and giving by openly expressing gratitude and appreciation for others! Here are some ways to get started.

  • Write a handwritten note of gratitude and appreciation.

  • Post a photo of you and another person on social media along with a heartfelt caption.

  • Text a meaningful quote with the message, “This reminds me of you!”

  • Tell a person “I am so grateful for ______.” “I always think about how you ___.” “I am inspired by your ____.”

  • Ask someone how they're doing.

  • A simple “Thank You” can go a long way, especially if it’s for something that someone does for you regularly - it’s probably been a while since you've said it!

Research has shown that regularly practicing gratitude lowers levels of stress and anxiety. Start a gratitude journal and write in it daily. Early in the morning can start you off on a great start. At night it can bring you peace as you sleep.
